New York City, NY – International Artists Explore Cultural Codes within “Unlocked Identities” Exhibition in New York, NY
Art project “Unlocked Identities” has opened in Manhattan SoHo, New York on Septermber, 12 2024. It is a group exploration of personal, social, and historical experiences through the lens of art on a global scale.
Curated by Julia Sysalova, an art curator from Athens, Greece, the exhibition concerns the ways in which identities change and shift when influenced by cultural, scientific, and social settings.
Through the complex labyrinths of their (sub)consciousness, 21 immigrant artists now based in USA, Spain, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Greece, Italy, Finland, Austria, Armenia, Great Britain, Kyrgyzstan and Singapore, explore their changing realities, revisiting how new cultural and social codes influence their artistic practices.
In search of a complex balance between internal and external contradictions, the artists (engaging with the ones they know best - themselves) create a dialogue with one another and with the public though painting, art photography, sculpture and installations.
The group's ambition is to present a broad, nonjudgmental perspective on identity, without imposing concepts of right and wrong. The exhibition invites the viewer to consider and reflect, to participate and respond.
"Unlocked Identities" aims to foster a non-judgmental dialogue about identity," said curator Sysalova. "We invite visitors to consider their own perspectives and engage with the artists' unique expressions."
